Former Liverpool midfielder Naby Keita has been suspended and fined by his club Werder Bremen as his time in Germany goes from bad to worse.
Naby Keita's return to Germany with Werder Bremen has hit yet another low after the Guinea international was suspended for the rest of the season.
Keita, who has played just five times for the club, refused to join the squad for their weekend trip to Bayer Leverkusen after learning he wasn't in the team.
Naby Keita suspended and fined
After realizing he wasn't included in the squad to face the Bundesliga winners, Keita opted not to join the team on the bus and returned home.
In response, Werder Bremen have taken disciplinary action against him, banning him from the club for the remainder of the season.
The club said in a statement:
"Werder Bremen officials have suspended Naby Keita until the end of the season. In addition, the Green-Whites have imposed a significant fine on the midfielder.
"From now on, the 29-year-old will neither train with the team nor spend time in the professional dressing room.
“Naby’s behavior cannot be tolerated for us as a club. With this action, he let his team down in a tense sporting and personnel situation and placed himself above the team."
The midfielder's future at the club is now under severe scrutiny and may be forced to look elsewhere.
