With his side looking down and out at home, with the scoreline at 3-1 after less than an hour, the 22-year-old, who has endured a difficult time since his move from Belgium, came off the bench to steal the show.
In a remarkable 13 minutes spell, the power forward netted brace, including the winner, after Arsenal boy Ainsley Maitland-Niles had made it 3-2 in the 61st minute.
In what was his first game of the season for Lyon in Ligue 1, Gift Orban reminded everyone of what he is capable of and the potential that made Tottenham consider him as a possible replacement for Harry Kane.
Still in the Ligue 1, Akor Adams returned amongst the goals for Montpellier while Moses Simon proved he is still one of Nigeria’s most reliable players abroad with another goal for Nantes.
But in what was the battle of the Nigerians, it was Simon and Nantes who came out tops after a 3-1 win, Adams’ first goal of the season turned out to be just a consolation.
Ndidi magic not enough in England
In the popular Premier League, defensive midfielder Wilfred Ndidi grabbed his first goal contribution for Leicester City since their return from relegation.
Ndidi assisted Leicester’s consolation in a 2-1 defeat at home to Aston Villa while Alex Iwobi and Calvin Bassey failed to make it three wins in a role after a 1-1 draw at newly promoted Ipswich Town.
Taiwo Awoniyi continued his comeback with another cameo for Nottingham Forest, with Championship-based Josh Maja caged at home for West Bromwich Albion.
Osimhen, Lookman ignored
The Serie A contingent remained sidelined for their respective clubs after Victor Osimhen and Ademola Lookman missed another matchday.
Napoli defeated Parma with new signing Romelu Lukaku stealing the show in the dramatic comeback win, with Osimhen nowhere near the stadium while Atalanta suffered a 4-0 humiliation to Inter Milan with main man Lookman watching from the bench.
Fisayo Dele-Bashiru earned a 19-minute run from Lazio in a 2-2 draw against giants AC Milan, who started with the quiet Samuel Chukwueze on the right wing.
Elsewhere, Victor Boniface and Nathan Tella prepared for the international break on a sour note as Bayer Leverkusen finally lost a domestic match for the first time in 35 matches.
Boniface started the encounter but was caged for 77 minutes in the 3-2 defeat at home to RB Leipzig, with Tella a second half substitute.
