Edo Governor has rewarded all 30 players and backroom staff who helped Edo Queens clinch her first NWFL title.

Edo Queens returned home to a hero's welcome after clinching the Nigeria Women Football League Premiership Super Six.

Pulse Sports had earlier reported that Edo Queens won the NWFL for the first time in Bayelsa after final day drama.

Governor Godwin Obaseki celebrated the team's historic achievement and doled out N42.5m to the players, coaches, and the entire backroom staff.

30 players got N1m each, technical crew members received N5m, backroom staff got N5m each, while the team’s supporters club got N2.5m.

“You have tried and have made us proud. Money alone can’t do it all but we will give you money for a job well done and for making us proud. Each player of the team will get N1m for the achievement, while the coaches will get N5m,” Obaseki stated.

Trophy Parade

Jubilant fans, led by the Governor's wife, Dr. Betsy Obaseki, joined the Queens in celebrating the historic moment with a Trophy Parade around the city of Benin.

The team was cheered through major streets within the city before arriving at the Government House for an official reception.

Governor Obaseki praised the team for their hard work and dedication, highlighting their landmark achievement - the first in 29 years.

“I am so happy and proud today as you have done us proud by bringing this trophy home. The trophy we have been looking for in the past 29 years is now with us. We know you will continue to be champions. I encourage you to work hard as your government and Governor will continue to support you.

“Whether I am here or not, the person that will replace me will continue to support you," he added.

With the win, Edo Queens secured a place in the WAFU B CAF Women's Champions League, Africa's top women's club football competition.
