Nairobi City Stars midfielder Ronney Kola has explained how playing in central defence has been an eye-opener in his debut season in the Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL).
A specialist defensive midfielder, Kola has found himself playing more at center-back than his preferred position and the different role has left him feeling better.

Kola joined City Stars in September 2020 after Simba wa Nairobi secured promotion back to the top flight but had to painfully watch from the sidelines before tasting the action following a long-term injury.
He was ruled out for the whole of last season due to the setback but recovered in time for the 2022-2023 campaign, claiming his place in the team, starting with a full game against Bidco United in the season-opener where he was awarded the Man of the Match gong, having been fielded as a makeshift centre-back.

The attacker made his City Stars debut as a second-half substitute against Posta Rangers in December.
“When I was playing as a center-back, I believed that I had qualities that would give me an edge in the league. That was my feeling then, it’s still my feeling now,” Kola told the club’s website.
“The season has been a great experience. The Kenyan Premier League is a very good platform and I must say I appreciate coach (Nicholas Muyoti) for trusting me to play as a centre-back, especially after I had a very long layoff due to injury.
