Napoli returned to winning ways against an in-form Inter side, ending their run of games without dropping points.

Napoli seemed to have phased out of their partying mood, as they were back to their brilliant best, smothering Inter in a 2-1 victory.

The champions hosted the Champions League finalists at the Diego Armando Maradona stadium as they looked to return to winning ways after a defeat to Monza. Luciano Spaletti's men looked up for the task, brushing aside the Nerazzurri.

How it happened

I Partenopei had only picked up one win in their last four games coming into this tie, and they faced an Inter side who have won each of their last eight and are into the Champions League final after knocking out AC Milan.

However, Spaletti's team showed the Serie A was their territory, as they dominated their visitors for the most part of the game.

The game did not immediately pick up pace, with both teams sizing each other up, but the champions soon assumed a position of dominance, initiating attack after attack towards Andre Onana's goal.

They did not manage to break the deadlock in the first-half, but their dominance was rewarded as Roberto Gagliardini was sent off for two yellow card offences.

The hosts capitalised on their numerical advantage in the second 45, intensifying the pressure on Simone Inzaghi's men. The resistance of the Nerazzurri was finally breached in the 67th minute after a Zambo Anguissa strike.

Napoli doubled their lead, but the goal was disallowed before Romelu Lukaku set up Frederico DiMarco for an equaliser in the 82nd minute.

Napoli regained dominance and went ahead three minutes later. Anguissa turned provider, setting up Giovanni Di Lorenzo. Gianluca Gaetano capped off the scoring of the day, as Napoli ran away 3-1 victors.
