Raphael Onyedika: 'Next Ndidi' gets highest rating in Conference League clash
Raphael Onyedika stood out in Club Brugge's intense clash with PAOK Thessaloniki, helping secure a crucial 1-0 victory in the Conference League.
How it happened.
From the opening whistle, Leicester dominated proceedings, pressing Southampton high up the pitch and restricting their opponents' time on the ball. Russell Martin's Southampton struggled to find their rhythm against Leicester's relentless pressure.
Despite a few promising moments, Southampton failed to create any clear-cut chances, while Leicester looked dangerous every time they attacked.
The breakthrough for Leicester came in the 25th minute when Issahaku Fatawu calmly finished after being set up by Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall. Southampton improved after the break but failed to capitalize on their chances, with James Justin making a crucial tackle to deny David Brooks.
Leicester doubled their lead in the 60th minute through Wilfred Ndidi, who powered home a cross from Stephy Mavididi. As Southampton's heads dropped, Leicester continued to dominate, with Fatawu adding his second with a precise finish in the 75th minute.
Jamie Vardy got in on the scoring act, converting a clinical finish four minutes later before Fatawu completed his hat-trick to seal a resounding 5-0 victory for Leicester. The win puts Enzo Maresca's side on the brink of achieving their pre-season goal of promotion to the Premier League.
Southampton, on the other hand, will have to regroup ahead of the playoffs after missing out on automatic promotion. Despite the heavy defeat, Russell Martin will have two games to rest his players and prepare for the playoff push.
