Owino recently completed a move to AFC Leopards from Posta in a bid estimated to be worth around Ksh. 800,000.
Newly acquired AFC Leopards defender Kennedy Owino has explained why he quit title-chasing Posta Rangers for the 13-time FKF Premier League champions.
Owino has arguably been one of the best center backs in the league since joining Rangers, with his ball-playing ability a joy to watch, coupled by his commanding presence and solid reading of defensive situations.
However, his journey to returning to one of Kenya’s most historic clubs was not plain-sailing, with the former Chemelil Sugar and SoNy Sugar player failing to make it at Gor Mahia just six months after signing a reported three-year-deal back in 2019.
Owino has now explained why his spell with K’ogalo never reached up to expectations.

“I never made the senior team at Gor Mahia so after around six months I decided to leave because I was not getting any game time,” Owino said as quoted on SportPesa News.
"I did not make it at Gor Mahia but I did not let that put me down. Instead, I used it as motivation and that left me wanting to be even better."
Back in December, Pulse Sports had reported that AFC Leopards were strongly interested in the player, who then said he was waiting for his manager’s direction in order to know if he would be completing the move.
It took a while to complete. Sources who spoke to Pulse Sports on condition of anonymity to protect relationships insist that Posta were demanding upwards of one million shillings to release the towering defender.

How Arsenal legend Len Julians revolutionized Gor Mahia's playing style, winning three league titles and molding football legends during his coaching years.
However, Leopards were only willing to pay 800,000 considering he only had six months left on his contract, a bid that was initially rejected but then accepted after Owino set his heart on leaving.
Owino has now explained the decision to join AFC Leopards despite the fact they are languishing in 10th place after 19 league games.
“I just felt like I needed a step up in my career and decided to pursue a new challenge that AFC Leopards managed to provide.
“I just want to help the club achieve its goals and return to the top,” Owino added.

Rangers coach John Kamau had earlier given Owino his blessing to leave the club.
“If there are such kind of rumors, for me, I have been known as a developer and I think I do not fear any player leaving the team,” Kamau said back in December.
“If both clubs agree on something, then for me they have my blessing because when I came in here last season, there was no player who had an offer.”

“I am happy with the process. If they want to leave, the clubs can agree on something because they cannot leave for free. I am happy to let them go and we will be competitive.
