Benni McCarthy names a 32-man Harambee Stars squad for crucial World Cup qualifiers against Gambia and Gabon, blending experience and youth.

Harambee Stars coach Benni McCarthy has named a 32-man provisional squad for this month’s FIFA World Cup 2026 qualifiers against Gambia and Gabon.

The coach, who was unveiled as Kenya’s national team head coach on Monday, March 3, 2025, is preparing for his first competitive matches against the Scorpions of Gambia and the Panthers of Gabon in the crucial qualification campaign.

The list includes Australia-based midfielder William Lenkupae – a promising talent who has been given his first international call-up, while young prospects Kelly Madada and Andreas Odhiambo have also been handed opportunities to prove themselves on the international stage.

Meanwhile, experienced marksman Masoud Juma returns to the squad after missing the previous international fixtures due to injury, while Spain-based midfielder Ismail Gonzalez is also back after a strong start to his club season.

France-based defender oseph Okumu retains his spot in the squad, providing a crucial presence in the backline .Additionally, forward Mohamed Bajaber has been named in the squad by the South African tactician.

Kenya will face a double-header in the next round of qualifiers this month, taking on Gambia on Thursday, March 20, 2025, at Stade Allasane Ouattara in Ivory Coast for matchday three of the qualifiers before returning home to face Gabon on Sunday, March 23, 2025, at Nyayo Stadium in Nairobi.

The players are expected to report to camp on Wednesday, March 12, 2025, to begin preparations for the two high-stakes encounters.

Speaking on the squad selection, coach Benni McCarthy stated, “Wednesday will be my first camp with local-based players to assess the quality for the upcoming CHAN and identify potential additions for the World Cup qualifiers against Gambia and Gabon.”
