Former Ulinzi Stars coach ready to lead the Bankers to new heights.

Former Ulinzi Stars coach Bernard Mwalala has expressed his excitement after being named the new head coach of KCB FC.

The 38-year-old tactician was unveiled on Friday and has signed an undisclosed deal with the Bankers ahead of the upcoming 2023/24 Football Kenya Federation Premier League season.

Expressing his enthusiasm for the opportunity, Mwalala has made it clear that he is fully committed to building a strong and competitive team capable of achieving positive results on the field.

With his eyes firmly set on top honours across all available tournaments, Mwalala's arrival heralds an exciting new era for the Bankers.

"I am excited by the opportunity, and I am fully committed to building a strong and competitive team that will deliver positive results on the field. Our focus is to go for top honors across all the available tournaments," said Mwalala.

Club patron Azu Ogol on his side has expressed confidence in Mwalala's abilities and believes that his appointment will usher in a new phase for the team, elevating its performance record in both local and regional football encounters.

"We are happy to have Mwalala on board as his experience will come in handy in delivering a positive impact on the team's performance going into the future," stated Ogola.

To support Mwalala in his coaching endeavours, KCB  has assembled a talented coaching staff. Elvis Ayany will serve as the assistant coach, while Eric Muranda and Samuel Okoth will take charge as the trainer and goalkeeper trainer, respectively.

The appointment of Mwalala aligns with KCB's commitment to bolstering its sports teams, as emphasized by Nkatha Mutungi, the Head of Integrated Marketing. The bank has invested over Kshs. 3 Billion in various sports disciplines, including football, volleyball, rugby, chess, athletics, motorsports, and golf.

Mwalala takes over from Zedekiah "Zico" Otieno, who was relieved of his duties after a four-year tenure with the club.

During his time at KCB, Zico worked alongside technical manager Bramwell Simiyu, first assistant Godfrey Solo Oduor, and strength and conditioning coach Samuel Macharia.

Additionally, Michael Oyando served as a trainer and team coordinator, and Charles Omondi Owour held the position of goalkeeper trainer.

With a fifth-place finish last season, KCB FC is eager to build on its performance and achieve even greater success under the leadership of Mwalala.

With his experience and dedication, the former Kenya international aims to guide the team to new heights and bring glory to the Bankers in the upcoming football season.
