Newcastle have rewarded Miguel Almiron's brilliant season by handing him a new three-and-a-half-year deal.

Newcastle have announced that Miguel Almiron has signed a new contract with the club, keeping him at St James' Park until the summer of 2026.

The 29-year-old Paraguayan is Newcastle's top scorer this season (10), helping them maintain a lofty league table position and reach the EFL Cup final, where they would face Manchester United.

Almiron pens new deal

Newcastle announced on Friday at noon that Almiron had signed a new three-and-a-half-year contract with the club.

Speaking after signing the new contract, the player stated that he has felt at home at Newcastle since his initial signing and has always felt welcomed.

He explained that he has consistently worked hard to improve himself and consequently help Newcastle achieve new heights since signing, and unavoidably mentioned the final against Manchester United on Sunday, saying he plans to celebrate the new contract with a victory.

"I am very happy to sign a new contract with Newcastle," he said after signing, according to the club's website.

"I felt at home at Newcastle from the beginning. I've felt very welcomed and I feel like part of the family, so I am very happy to stay here and I am going to keep giving everything on the pitch to thank the people of Newcastle.

"The truth is that I've worked really hard since I came to Newcastle to improve my level and to be where I am at the moment, and I also thank the staff and my team-mates, who have helped me a lot during these four years. I think this is a reward for that hard work and I am very happy.

"On Sunday, we have a very important match and while the new contract makes me really happy, the most important thing is that we celebrate this contract with a victory on Sunday."

Almiron unplayable this season

The Paraguay international signed for Newcastle United from MLS side Atlanta United in the winter transfer window of 2019 and has since played over 150 games for the Tyneside giants.

He has shown a decent level since signing for the club, but took it up several notches this season, where he has been one of the best players in the league, with a player of the month award in October to show for it.

Almiron has scored ten goals in the league for the Magpies this season, a tally bettered only by five players in the English top flight this season and none in the black and white of Newcastle.

The 29-year-old's form this season has been rewarded with a new contract, and manager Eddie Howe was elated after he put pen to paper, saying Almiron has been an integral part of his team's success this season.

"Miggy is a hugely important part of our squad on and off the pitch and I'm very pleased to see his contribution acknowledged in this way. I'm delighted we'll continue our journey together."

Almiron will look to help Newcastle earn their first piece of silverware since 1969 when they face Manchester United on Sunday.
