Newcastle United are back in the Champions League for the first time in 20 years but now want more.

Newcastle United have set their sight on winning silverware after making it back to the Champions League for the first time in 20 years according to their excited manager Eddie Howe.

The Magpies confirmed their spot in the Champions League next season after an intense goalless affair against Leicester City on Monday night.

Newcastle United dominated the encounter at St James’ Park, hitting the post three times through Callum Wilson, Miguel Almiron, and Bruno Guimaraes.

But the Magpies were forced to share the spoils by the relegation-threatened Foxes which was enough to guarantee them a top-four finish come the end of the current season.

The draw against Leicester means the Magpies have now qualified for the lucrative group stages of the Champions League.

However, according to Newcastle manager, Eddie Howe, after a satisfying end to the season with Champions League football secured, the club now wants silverware.

“I am so grateful for the opportunity I have had here and this is hugely satisfying,” Howe said after the special night according to TalkSport.

“The supporters have been absolutely incredible and have galvanised the players. I want success massively for this football club. We want to bring silverware to St James’ Park,” he added.

On Newcastle’s season

Speaking further on what has been a special season for the Magpies, Howe noted that the club just wanted to avoid any relegation fight this season after he arrived with the club 19th on the table last season.

The Magpies have now activated another level of ambition.

“The aim before the season certainly wasn't too four, we didn't feel we were ready for that,” he noted.

“The aim was to consolidate and avoid any threat of relegation. The lads have just been unbelievable for me. I can't praise them enough, what they have given me is incredible,” he concluded.
