Niger Tornadoes are one of four teams to have won all two of their first games of the 2023 NPFL season.
While Niger Tornadoes rejoined Abia Warriors at the top of Group B on Thursday following an impressive win over newcomers Doma United, defending champions Rivers United, were unable to sneak away a win in Akure.
The second game week of the 2023 NPFL season saw six matches played simultaneously across six venues - two of which saw Group B sides Niger Tornadoes, Doma United, Sunshine Stars and Rivers United take on themselves.
Here is a quick round-up of the matches played in Group B.
Niger Tornadoes 1-0 Doma United
The Ahmadu Bello Stadium in Kaduna saw Niger Tornadoes disappoint newcomers Doma United and make it back-to-back wins after their previous victory over Wikki Tourists in their first game of the season.
An 8th-minute thunderbolt by Munir Idris after a combinations play with Jonas Emmanuel was enough to see Tornadoes nick all three points for themselves, subjecting Doma United to remain just a point off the relegation zone.
Sunshine Stars 1-1 Rivers United
Sunshine Stars were unable to break the shackles of a score draw on Thursday as they were forced to settle for a 1-1 score line with defending champions Rivers United, at home.
The game saw Rivers United - who had won their first game of the season - take the lead in the 23rd minute, courtesy of an own goal. However, a second-half resurgence by the Akure club at the Akure Township Stadium saw them get rewarded with a late penalty, which Ejike Uzoechi converted in the 85th minute.
The result now sees Rivers United maintain their position in the top 3, with Sunshine Stars, rooted to 6th in Group B.
