The youngster could be convinced to pick Nigeria over England by new teammate William Troost-Ekong

Former Manchester United prospect Shola Shoretire has embarked on a new chapter in his football career, moving to Greek club PAOK following his departure from Old Trafford.

This move brings him alongside Super Eagles captain William Troost-Ekong, who could influence the youngster to choose Nigeria over England.

Shoretire joins PAOK

Shoretire, who was once hailed as a promising talent at Manchester United, has decided to join PAOK in Greece, as confirmed by football transfer expert Fabrizio Romano. Shoretire's contract with Manchester United expired at the end of the season, and despite being courted by clubs in England, Spain, MLS, and Saudi Arabia, he opted for the Greek Super League to continue his career.

Shoretire made a total of five senior appearances for Manchester United, with a notable milestone in 2021 when he became the youngest player to represent the club in a European competition, playing against Real Sociedad. However, opportunities dwindled under manager Erik ten Hag, leading to his departure from the club.

His last appearance for United was in the final game of the 2022-23 Premier League season against Crystal Palace, where he played for 15 minutes. Following that, he spent a loan spell at Bolton Wanderers, gaining valuable experience.

At PAOK, Shoretire aims to rejuvenate his career and gain more consistent playing time. The 20-year-old winger, still brimming with potential, will seek to make a significant impact in Greece's top tier and possibly reignite his international career prospects.

In an interesting twist, Shoretire's move to PAOK sees him joining forces with Nigerian national team captain Troost-Ekong.

The Nigerian defender signed with PAOK last summer, bringing experience and leadership to the squad. This connection could provide Shoretire with a familiar presence and perhaps even mentorship as he adjusts to his new environment.

Shoretire, who is of Nigerian descent through his father, has represented England at various youth levels but remains eligible to play for Nigeria's senior team. His move to PAOK and potential synergy with Troost-Ekong could be significant in his decision-making regarding international representation.
