The former Super Eagles star does not understand why the World Cup winner is always played out of position

Nigeria legend Sunday Oliseh has expressed his dismay at the treatment of Chelsea midfielder N'Golo Kante whom he feels is constantly played out of position.

Kante started on the left of a three-man midfield with record signing Enzo Fernandez sitting while Mateo Kovacic was deployed on the right during Chelsea’s 3-1 loss to Premier League leaders Arsenal on Tuesday.

The two-time Premier League winner, however, struggled in the advanced role, with Chelsea second-best to Arsenal in all departments and Oliseh feels the Blues are not getting the best out of the former Leicester City midfielder due to the position they ask him to play.

“Arsenal on fire vs Chelsea! I am totally dumbfounded by Chelsea and most especially how on earth it is possible, for N’Golo Kante, who has won virtually everything with Chelsea and France as the greatest defensive midfielder of his generation, is continually played out of position,” Oliseh posed on Twitter.

Kante thrived at Leicester playing at the base of midfield with his tackling, work rate and vision helping the Foxes to an unlikely title in the 2015-16 season before moving to Chelsea the following season and doing the same to be crowned the PFA Player of the Year.

The 32-year-old also won the 2018 World Cup with France playing in the deeper role and was considered the best defensive midfielder in the world but a number of Chelsea coaches have been shifting him around since, tasked with playing in a more offensive position which has seen his effectiveness dim.

Kante has also not benefited from consistency over the last two seasons with injuries hampering him and has featured in just five Premier League games this term since returning to action at the start of March.

He has also been affected by Chelsea’s huge splash on new talent in the summer and January transfer windows with the likes Fernandez playing in his preferred position.

The Blues’ defeat to Arsenal extended their winless run to nine games in all competitions having last won a match on March 11 when they beat relegation-threatened Leicester 3-1 with interim manager Frank Lampard losing all his six games since taking charge.
