Former Super Eagles coach Gernot Rohr has returned to Uyo as the Benin Republic prepare to face Nigeria in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) qualifiers.
The match marks Rohr's second encounter with Nigeria since his departure as the Super Eagles manager. In June, his Benin team secured a 2-1 victory over Nigeria in a 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier.
Rohr was the Super Eagles coach from 2016 to 2021 and led Nigeria to the 2018 World Cup in Russia.
The experienced German manager known for his calm demeanor, was seen wearing his signature suit as he arrived in Uyo on Thursday.

Rohr as Super Eagles coach
During his tenure with Nigeria, Rohr achieved significant success, leading the Super Eagles to the 2018 FIFA World Cup and securing a third-place finish in the 2019 AFCON.
Although he qualified Nigeria for the 2021 AFCON, he was replaced by Austin Eguavoen before the tournament began.
Rohr and his Cheetahs arrived in Uyo at 6:11 PM on a Sky Line flight from Abidjan, Côte d'Ivoire. Upon their arrival, the team proceeded to their assigned camp after obtaining clearance from the Nigeria Immigration Service.
Nigeria will host Benin Republic at the Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo on Saturday. The game is scheduled for 5PM Nigerian time.
