Michelle Alozie, Oshoala get Super Falcons numbers
The Super Falcons have been absent from the global event since 2008 and will kick off their campaign on Thursday at the Bordeaux Stadium, aiming to navigate a tough group stage and pursue their first-ever Olympic gold medal.
Ahead of the pulsating clash against the South American giants, key changes in squad numbers have been made by the Randy Waldrum-led crew.
Super Falcons' hottest player Michelle Alozie, who is happy to be in Paris 2024, has switched from 22 to 2, with Ifeoma Onumonu moving to 18, vacating her previous number 2
Recent PSG signing Nicole Payne has also taken over number 4 as she vacates the number 20.
Star players Chiamaka Nnadozie, Asisat Oshoala, and captain Rasheedat Ajibade have retained their familiar numbers, however.
The clash against Brazil is scheduled for 6 pm Nigerian time on Thursday and marks the beginning of Nigeria's quest for Olympic glory, as they aim to make a strong statement in their return to the global stage.
Despite the formidable opposition, the Super Falcons are determined to overcome the odds and progress beyond the group stage, carrying the hopes of millions of Nigerians as they compete in this prestigious tournament.
In a related development, defender, Toni Payne, who also retained her number 7, has been talking tough ahead of the opener against the Samba Girls.
Payne says while the Brazilians are a good team, they are on Nigeria’s level and the Falcons are battle-ready.
“Brazil, it's going to be a tough team, they are very talented but I think as Nigeria we are at the level,” the latest Everton signing stated.
Payne and her sister, Nicole, also shared how prepared they were for the fight ahead as reported by Pulse Sports.
