Okoye and the Super Eagles
Maduka Okoye was invited by coach Gernot Rohr in 2017 after the German tactician expressed interest in him before the 2018 World Cup, but club commitments and other factors hindered his inclusion.
In 2019, Rohr recognised Okoye as a potential solution to the team's goalkeeping crisis and invited him for a friendly against Ukraine. Okoye finally made his international debut as a substitute against Brazil in October 2019.
