Sanusi to miss Arsenal tie
The left-back recently returned from a successful outing with the Super Eagles at the AFCON 2023.
Sanusi played featured prominently as Nigeria made it to the final of the 34th AFCOn before a 2-1 defeat to host nation Cote d’Ivoire.
However, the 27-year-old seems set to spend the rest of the season on the sidelines following a serious injury on his first game for Porto following his return from AFCON.
Per journalist, Zach Lowy, the injury and duration were confirmed by Porto manager, Sergip Conceicao, during his post-match press conference after the 2-0 win against Estrela da Amadora in the Primera Liga on Saturday night.
Sanusi had only played just four matches this season for the Portuguese side before he joined Nigeria’s Super Eagles at the AFCON but started the game against Estrela.
But he could not finish the game as he was carried off on a stretcher after just 32 minutes, ruling him out of the game against Premier League side, Arsenal in midweek.
Per Portugal-based outfit, A Bola, the defender seems to have picked up a dangerous knee problem.
“In the 29th minute, in a run by André Luiz down the central corridor, Zaidu gains ground on the opponent and it is he who manages to intercept the shot, however, he comes out very complaining, with problems in his left knee,’ it wrote in a report on their website,
In his absence, Brazilian left-back Wendell is expected to now enjoy an extended run in the Porto team.
