These Nigerian players could be changing clubs before the transfer window shuts tonight
January 31 marks the close of the 2023 winter transfer window in European football which means today is the last day players can move between clubs till the end of the season.
As a result, deadline day is a frantic rush to get deals over the line before the window shuts and this includes Nigerian players.
Here are some notable Nigerian players who are likely to make a move today having been surrounded with speculation all month long.
Terem Moffi
Reports suggest that Lorient have already accepted a €30 million offer (including bonuses) from OGC Nice for the signing of Terem Moffi.
The Nigerian has been the most sought-after player in Ligue 1 following an explosive start to the season in which he scored 12 goals in 18 games for Les Merlus.
The second-highest scorer in the French top flight looks set to leave Lorient today after already agreeing personal terms with Nice much earlier in the window.
Moffi had interest from Marseille, Lyon, West Ham and Southampton but has always preferred OGC Nice and he looks set to get his wish today.
Bright Osayi-Samuel
Nigerian full-back Bright Osayi-Samuel has been strongly linked with a transfer away from Fenerbahce with a number of Premier League clubs reportedly interested.
The 25-year-old has since attracted interest from Bournemouth with the Cherries being touted as his next destination before the window closes.
Bournemouth may have to pay a fee in the region of €9.00m for the Super Eagles star if they are to convince Fenerbahce to sell the player whose contract runs out in 2024.
Paul Onuachu
As far as transfer rumours go, Paul Onuachu has been constantly linked with multiple clubs in every window in the last six seasons but nothing ever materialises.
Like clockwork, Europa League holders Eintracht Frankfurt and Premier League side, Southampton have been touted as his next destination so far but it is another English club who look more likely to sign him.
Everton have been credited with interest in Onuachu especially with the appointment of Sean Dyche as the Toffees’ manager.
Onuachu is currently top of the Belgian Pro League scorers’ chart with 16 goals already while Everton as a team have only scored 15 goals.
The lanky striker would have fit into Dyche’s route one style of play and offer Everton a new dimension going forward.
