What is the AFL?
As reported by Pulse Sports Nigeria, AFL, known as the African Football League, is a competition for African elite clubs put together by the Confederation of Africa Football, CAF, in partnership with FIFA.
AFL, initially known as the Africa Super League, was put together to showcase the best of African club football and provide football fans in Africa the opportunity to see and enjoy the beautiful game.
The competition was also created to inject more money into football development for clubs in Africa and the promotion of African football.
It is expected to be an annual competition as announced by FIFA President, Gianni Infantino, which had an initial plan to see 24 elite teams from across the continent compete at the highest level.
The opening match between Simba and Al Ahly kicks off at the Benjamin Mkapa Stadium on Friday in what is expected to be an explosive battle between the African giants.
