Spain's Euro 2024 star Nico Williams seems set to stay in Athletic Bilbao after taking over an iconic number at the club.
Barcelona's hopes of luring Spain's Euro 2024 sensation Nico Williams to the Nou Camp have been dashed, as the 22-year-old winger has been entrusted with an iconic shirt number at his current club, Athletic Bilbao.
The Spain-born Ghanaian international was the subject of intense speculation throughout the summer, with Barcelona keen to reunite him with his impressive Euro 2024 teammate Lamine Yamal.

No Williams and Lamine Yamal at Barcelona
Williams, who was instrumental in Spain's historic fourth European Championship victory, scoring in the final as La Roja defeated England 2-1, had been heavily linked with a move to the Catalan giants.
However, it appears those dreams of a Barcelona switch will have to wait, as Bilbao have firmly put their foot down, handing Williams a prestigious jersey that suggests he is set to stay at the San Mamés.
Unsurprisingly, this development has left some football fans feeling rather trolling their Barcelona counterparts, with one supporter hilariously mocking their peers, stating, "Barcelona Fans said he was joining them yesterday, let's laugh at them."
Another fan bemoaned, "Barca fans are crying," while one individual sarcastically claimed, "Nico Williams is currently in Barcelona! Atletico Bilbao has finally given Nico the thumbs up to head to Barcelona. According to sources, he's visiting the Catalan capital to sign some papers for his sneaker shop there and will then return to his club."
Despite the persistent rumours, it seems Nico Williams will be staying put at Athletic Bilbao for the time being, much to the delight of the club's passionate supporters and the despair of Barcelona's faithful, who were eagerly anticipating the prospect of seeing the young star link up with Yamal at the Camp Nou.
