Iwobi on playing for Nigeria’s Super Eagles
Iwobi made the bold declaration during a radio appearance on Kissfresh, where he waxed lyrical about his love for the Super Eagles and the unique atmosphere that comes with playing international football in Nigeria.
"I felt more at home there (in Nigeria)," the Fulham star revealed. "Football there felt like a festival, a party. You go to the games, and people are blowing trumpets, drums - it never felt like a proper match. So I said, yeah, this is where I belong."
Iwobi's comments come as a testament to the strong pull of national pride and the unique footballing culture in Nigeria, which has been a driving force for many dual-nationality players who have opted to don the green and white of the Super Eagles over the more established national teams of Europe.
"Of course, I respect England, but I have no regrets choosing Nigeria," the 27-year-old midfielder affirmed.
The midfielder's unwavering commitment to the Nigerian cause will undoubtedly be welcomed by the team's passionate supporters, who have long revered the Okocha family's contributions to the national team's success.
As the Super Eagles continue their quest for glory on the international stage, Iwobi's declaration will undoubtedly serve as a rallying cry for the team and its fans, as they look to build on their rich footballing heritage and cement Nigeria's status as a dominant force in African football.
The Fulham star will have another chance to wear the green and white colours of Nigeria when the Super Eagles host South Africa in Uyo in a 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifier.
