Lyles' new contract is said to be the most valuable in the history of track and field since Usain Bolt's deal with Puma between 2014 and 2017, which was reportedly worth 10 million USD a year.

World 100m and 200m champion Noah Lyles has explained why he will not reveal details of his recently signed bumper contract with athletic apparel and footwear corporation Adidas.

On Tuesday 27 February, Adidas announced that Noah's deal had been extended until 2028 to “the richest contract in the sport of track and field since the retirement of Usain Bolt.”

Bolt’s final contract with Puma from 2014-17 was reportedly valued at around $10 million a year.

Lyles' contract, although big, is rumored to be worth four times less than Bolt’s at north of $ 2 million a year.

In a recent interview with Yahoo Sports, Lyles revealed that he would not be getting into specifics about the contract because did not “like it”.

He argued that announcing numbers would not do anything to help the popularity of the sport.

“I definitely wish we were able to say how much it was. Someone made a tweet and they were doing some math off of the 20 million USD it is assumed Bolt made in 2017 and I am not gonna lie, there is a number there that was very close to the real thing and I wished I could say what it actually was.

“As you can see, I can’t tell you!”

Lyles, 26, signed his initial contract with Adidas in the summer of 2016, shortly after finishing 4th in the US Olympic Trials 200 meters as a senior at T.C. Williams High School in Alexandria, Virginia.

That deal took Lyles through the 2020 Olympics, and at the time, it was a bold move: Lyles and his younger brother Josephus were the first two US male sprinters to turn professional straight out of high school.

Lyles wasted no time showing he belonged, winning the Diamond League 200m title in his first year as a pro in 2017.

He has since gone on to become one of the finest sprinters America has ever produced, claiming three straight world 200m titles in 2019, 2022, and 2023, setting an American 200m record of 19.31 in 2022, and winning triple gold at Worlds last summer.

Meanwhile, the speedstar has explained why he got into a partnership with energy drink Celcius.

“To be honest, I am an energetic guy,” Lyles joked before momentarily giggling.

“It only made sense that I partnered with Celcius and I mean, they said they wanted to get into the Olympic Space, they wanted to get into track and field so they felt they needed the world’s fastest man.

“That is my title, world’s fastest man. If they want to get into it and they want to get into it hard, I feel it’s a beautiful partnership.

“We have an idea of chasing dreams, reaching for the stars.”
