Interim head coach Jackson Mayanja who has overseen eight games since he took charge, says his side might not have won the league, but they’ve earned a second-spot finish.

KCCA FC signed off their StarTimes Uganda Premier League campaign with a 5-0 thrashing of Soltilo Bright Stars to finish second on 53 points.

Interim head coach Jackson Mayanja who has overseen eight games since he took charge, says his side might not have won the league, but they’ve earned a second-spot finish.

To Mayanja, a second-place finish is key because it presents an opportunity for KCCA FC to return to continental football if Vipers claim a league double.

“I have been telling my players that, at worst, we should finish second because Vipers may lift a double, and if they do, we shall return to the continent,” he noted.

“A club of KCCA FC’s level should be playing continental football every season,” he added.

Having won the league now, Vipers are in the semifinals of the Stanbic Uganda Cup and have a 4-0 aggregate lead over Soltilo Bright Stars; if they advance, they will face Police FC in the final.

Winning the domestic Cup would mean the second-placed team on the log represents Uganda at the CAF Confederation Cup.

The Kasasiro boys last played continental football under Mike Mutebi in the 2018/19 season when they reached the group stages of the CAF Champions League.

They had played in the CAF Confederation Cup group stages the season before that.

Mato Rogers scored four goals while Charles Lwanga added another as KCCA FC defeated Soltilo Bright Stars 5-0 on Saturday afternoon at the MTN Omondi stadium in Lugogo
