FOOTBALL Blow for Manchester United as Martinez’s season comes to an end
Varane on the other hand, is expected to return earlier after he and Martinez got injured on Thursday.
Now, he has confirmed the injury has brought an end to his first season with the Red Devils, and posted on social media to comment on his feelings while paying tribute to the fans.
“Not the way I imagined what's been a very special season would end, but sometimes we face obstacles along the way that we have to overcome to make us stronger and we learn from them,” said Martinez.
“I know that I'll be back soon to go for more. In the meantime, I'll continue to support my team-mates to achieve our objectives. The messages and support I've received has been amazing, they're giving me strength and encouragement. Thanks to you all from the bottom of my heart.”
The World Cup winner has added to United’s piling injury list with his centre-back partner Raphael Varane also suffering a setback in the same game and is set to miss 'a few weeks'.

Manchester United keen on £60m-rated Portuguese midfielder
Manchester United are reportedly keen on signing Fulham midfielder Joao Palhinha ahead of next season.
Martinez has been an almost ever-present presence in the defence, making 44 appearances for United, after proving himself to be up to the task of handling the Premier League despite his height.
With United’s top scorer Marcus Rashford also out as the Red Devils challenge for a top-four finish in the league as well as the FA Cup and Europa League, Erik ten Hag will now be forced to turn to the much-maligned defensive partnership of Victor Lindelof and Harry Maguire for the remainder of the season.
