Ex-Liverpool midfielder Shelvey is set to join Nottingham Forest as their 25th signing this season, with more potentially on the way
Nottingham Forest have agreed on a deal to sign Jonjo Shelvey from Newcastle, which will make him the club’s fourth signing this window and 25th this season for the first team.
The club, in its first season back from the lower divisions of English football, have done everything within their power to ensure that they stay in the Premier League for at least another season by signing an entire team over the course of two transfer windows since being promoted.
Shelvey will be Nottingham Forest’s latest in a long line of signings
They signed 21 players in the summer, including the Nigerian duo of Taiwo Awoniyi and Emmanuel Dennis, and have already bolstered the squad with the additions of Chris Wood, Gustavo Scarpa, and €20 million Brazilian defensive midfielder Danilo in the winter transfer window.
These investments seem to have paid off as Forest have made it all the way to 13th on the league table and are only eight points off Liverpool and Chelsea, who currently occupy the 9th and 10th spots on the table, respectively.
Shelvey needs to move after falling out of favour
Their latest investment is Shelvey, and they will hope he can deliver performances similar to what he has done for Newcastle since he joined them from Liverpool.
Shelvey will be eager to leave Newcastle after falling down the pecking order following the arrival of Bruno Guimares in the summer, as well as a lengthy injury layoff.
The English midfielder has made only three Premier League appearances this season for the Magpies and has played a total of 122 minutes in all competitions this season.
He will hope that a move to Nottingham Forest can earn him some much-needed game time and revitalise his career.
