Chris Wood signs for Nottingham Forest form Newcastle on loan with an obligation to buy.
Nottingham Forest have announced the signing of Chris Wood from Newcastle on loan with a mandatory purchase option if certain conditions are met.
The 31-year-old Australian striker becomes the 25th signing for Nottingham Forest this season.
Chris Wood to Nottingham Forest
Nottingham Forest announced today via their official channels that they have signed Chris Wood on loan from Newcastle for the remainder of the season, with a conditional obligation to make the deal permanent at the end of the season. The deal would run until 2024.
The striker would wear the number 39 jersey, as announced by the club.
Chris Wood was pleased about his move, and he had this to say.
"It’s a great feeling and I am very thankful to be here," Wood said, per the club's website.
“Nottingham Forest is a massive club which I have come up against a number of times, but it’s nice now to be able to pull on the red shirt and fight for the club.
“I’ve been in this league a long time, so hopefully I’ll bring a lot of experience to try and help the younger lads out and bring everybody together."
Filippo Giraldi, the club's sporting director, spoke on the move, clearly excited about his new signing.
“Chris is a player who has great character and experience," he said.
"Having played 189 games and scored 54 goals in the Premier League.
“He is hungry to join us, and we are proud and ready to fight together to reach our targets.”
Why Nottingham Forest went for Chris Wood
Chris Wood is a Premier League proven striker, and as Giraldi said, he has scored 54 goals in the league, which is no easy feat.
Wood is a proven goalscorer everywhere he's played, from his national team, where he has 33 goals in 70 games, to Leeds, where he scored 44 in 88, and more famously, for Burnley, where he scored 49 in 144.
