NPFL: Throwback to when Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa rejoined boyhood side Kano Pillars without pay

Super Eagles skipper Ahmed Musa made a sensational return to the NPFL on a short stint at boyhood club Kano Pillars.

In a heartwarming moment that captured the man he had become, one who inspires and unites, Super Eagles captain Ahmed Musa made a remarkable return to the NPFL and his boyhood club, Kano Pillars, in 2021. 

The move, which saw the experienced forward don the iconic yellow and green jersey once again, was a testament to his unwavering commitment to the sport and his deep-rooted connection to his hometown.

Ahmed Musa’s NPFL return

Musa's journey with Kano Pillars dates back to his formative years, when he burst onto the scene as a teenage sensation, scoring an impressive 18 league goals for the club during the 2009/2010 season – a then record in the NPFL. 

His exploits earned him the coveted Top Scorer award that year, a feat he would go on to replicate in the 2012-2013 Russian Cup.

The 2014 CAF Team of the Year selection further cemented Musa's status as one of the most talented players to emerge from the Nigerian Premier Football League, NPFL.

His decision to rejoin Kano Pillars on a short-term deal in 2021 was a heartwarming homecoming as the fans eagerly anticipated the return of their beloved hero.

During his three-month stint with the club, Musa's impact was not just felt on the pitch, but also in the hearts of the Kano Pillars faithful. 

The striker's selfless gesture of forgoing his salary was a testament to his unbelievable loyalty, generosity, and desire to give back to the club that had played a pivotal role in his development.

While Musa opted out of Kano Pillars' away games, he made sure to honour all the home matches, except on special occasions where there was an available flight in the state for an away game. 

This commitment to the club and its supporters underscored the deep bond that Musa shared with his hometown team.

The return of Ahmed Musa to Kano Pillars was more than just a football story; it was a celebration of the power of the beautiful game to inspire and unite communities. 

As the fans, NPFL followers and lovers savoured the moment which made the rounds on social media and other platforms, Musa’s return served as a key reminder that the love for the sport can transcend borders and bring people together, regardless of their background or status.
