The experienced football administrator explained why he has confidence in the FKF Cup champions.

Former Football Kenya Federation (FKF) president Sam Nyamweya is confident that Kakamega Homeboyz will post a decent performance in the CAF Confederation Cup in the 2023/24 season.

Homeboyz sealed the remaining CAF ticket available for Kenya after beating Tusker 1-0 on Sunday during the FKF Cup final at Moi International Sports Center, Kasarani.

Nyamweya believes Homeboyz have experienced and young players who can power their dream at the continental stage.

"I am pleased to see Homeboyz win their first-ever title. This is a team I have followed closely and supported for many years, especially when I was the FKF President, and for them to win the FKF Cup is a very big achievement.

"I want to thank club chairman Cleophas Shimanyula for sticking with the team, and I am happy with the way he has built a team of young and experienced players. They have had a good season in the league and now in the domestic cup, and I am sure they will not let Kenyans down in the Confederation Cup," Nyamweya said.

Homeboyz lifted their maiden trophy after finishing many seasons without one despite impressive attempts. The Kakamega-based side will also make a maiden appearance in CAF interclub competitions, as giants Tusker failed to lift a single trophy last term.

Together with Gor Mahia, Homeboyz carries the hopes of the nation at the continental level. By virtue of winning the Premier League title, K'Ogalo grabbed a Champions League ticket.
