UGANDA CUP Odoch Cautions Express' Display in Narrow Win Over Lugazi

Express FC head coach James Odoch was not impressed with his side's display in a 1-0 win over Lugazi FC in the Stanbic Uganda Cup Round of 32 at Luzira on Sunday.

Allan Kayiwa scored for the hosts from a penalty in the 25th minute when Lugazi goalkeeper Florence Watmon fouled him inside the box.

The visitors were then reduced to 10 men when Arafa Bagala was sent off in the 45th minute after elbowing Kayiwa.

Despite the FUFA Big League team being a man down for the whole second half, the Red Eagles were unconvincing, especially in the midfield and attack.

“I can only take the results from this game but not the general performance,” Odoch said in the aftermath of the game before adding, “We had the numerical advantage but failed to capitalize on it, and our midfielders and strikers looked lost in the game.”

Odoch added, “This performance needs to improve because the games coming up are tough, especially in the league and also in this competition where I expect stronger opposition in the Round of 16.”

He made a few changes in the midfield and attack, bringing on the likes of Daniel Shabene, Faisal Ssekyanzi, and Joseph Akandwanaho, who were relatively good.

“I was at least impressed with the substitutes because they tried to change the game and ensured that we played some good football towards the end,” Odoch praised.

After reaching the Round of 16 of the Uganda Cup, the joint record winners will return to the Uganda Premier League on Saturday with a visit to URA FC in Nakisunga.
