Odoch is concerned about the performance of his players, especially the strikers, Anwar Ntege and Marvin Oshaba.
There is a lot going on at the moment in the Express camp, on and off the pitch, but for today let us focus on the latter which is giving head coach James Odoch more headaches.
Odoch is concerned about the performance of his players, especially the strikers, Anwar Ntege and Marvin Oshaba.
“The levels of the players' performance are low, more so from the forwards,” Odoch said in the aftermath of Express' 1-0 narrow victory over 10-man side Lugazi in the Uganda Cup at Luzira on Sunday.
“If the strikers cannot position themselves well and put away the chance, then we are in trouble because at least if we could score from the few opportunities created, we could be able to win games.”
He applauded Oshaba for his great display on the day but was concerned about the striker's output because, at the end of the day, he is required to score goals.
“Oshaba played well, but he needs to turn his good performance into goals because that is his main role.”
“He and Ntege are supposed to be composed well enough in their positioning, and that is the only way we can win games.”
“We shall continue emphasizing and encouraging them to improve, plus the rest of the players in the other departments,” Odoch added.
Ntege and Oshaba were fielded together against Lugazi, but it does not happen often, with the former preferred as a starter to the latter who is often used as a substitute.
They both joined the club at the start of the ongoing season, and while Oshaba has scored once during a 2-1 win over Onduparaka, Ntege has two goals all against Wakiso Giants in a 3-2 defeat.
The Red Eagles have depended more on winger-cum-striker Allan Kayiwa's goals, who is also a new player at the club.
Kayiwa has managed seven goals in all competitions, with six coming in from the league and one from the Uganda Cup.
