Joint record holders Express FC (10) agonizingly fell to FUFA Big League strugglers Adjumani Town Council, exiting the Stanbic Uganda Cup at the quarterfinal stage.
The Red Eagles were beaten 2-0 by the minnows at the Paridi Stadium on Saturday, courtesy of goals from Michael Ajiga and Swadik Collensis.
Express did not lack effort, created a mammoth of goalscoring opportunities but somehow failed to find a way back, much to the frustration of tactician James Odoch.
"We had a good game but we failed to use our chances and the opposite side did," Odoch expressed his disappointment to the media following the exit.
Each of Faisal Ssekyanzi and Anwar Ntege had a glorious chance apiece to level for 'Mukwano Gwabangi' before the break, but failed to capitalize.
The pair yet again had their team's best opportunities in the second half before the hosts got a second in the 70th minute, that all but confirmed Odoch and his side's elimination.
"We lacked the sharpness in front of goal and when you don't score you get punished and that's how football is," Odoch noted.
Express will now look to salvage bits of positives in the Uganda Premier League where they occupy 10th on the 15-team log, with 25 points in 20 games.
"We now put all our focus on the Uganda Premier League to see that we end in a better position," Odoch added.
It won't be too long before they get back to league action, as they take on the rejuvenated Busoga United on Tuesday at the Muteesa II Stadium, Wankulukuku.
