"I am a maketier by profession, and I narrowed it down to sports marketing because it is my passion," She told Pulse Sports.
Flavia Oketcho has done it all, at least in basketball, where she is regarded as the most decorated female Ugandan basketball player ever.
On March 16th, as the Federation of Uganda Basketball Associations inked a three-year Ugx 360M deal with Stanbic Bank, Oketcho surprised many when she was in attendance in the capacity of a marketing agency representative and not as a player.
The JKL Lady Dolphins point guard runs the Flirsh Box agency, which in this case represented Stanbic Bank to partner with FUBA, and Oketcho says she has always juggled her marketing profession and the basketball career.
"I am a maketier by profession, and I narrowed it down to sports marketing because it is my passion," She told Pulse Sports.
"I am using my connections and marketing profession to link the corporate world with FUBA."
"Because Flirsh Box is also the official FUBA marketing agency," Oketcho added.
Oketcho believes this should be an example to fellow athletes who she encourages to pursue their professions even when they are still active in their respective sports disciplines.
"I am a strong believer in being the best version of yourself; today, we have so many basketballers /athletes who are educated or attaining education in various fields."
"However, what happens after you have attained your education? It's good to pursue your profession even as you play sports," she added.
With a career spanning over 15 years, Oketcho has turned out for clubs like Lady Bucks, where her career started before she moved to UCU, then KCCA Leopards and now JKL Lady Dolphins, her current team.
Oketcho has also played for the women's national basketball team, the Gazelles, at Afro Basket and in numerous tournaments and qualifiers.
