Maduka Okoye has revealed that he intends to return as the number one Super Eagles goalkeeper soon.

The Udinese shot-stopper lost his position as the number-one goalkeeper after the 2021 AFCON tournament in Cameroon.

Since then, he has not been featured for the Super Eagles in any major tournament and was left out of the squad until the last World Cup qualifying games.

Okoye had an impressive season with his club side Udinese, playing 25 games and keeping 5 clean sheets.

In a recent interview, Maduka Okoye discussed replacing Stanley Nwabali as the starting goalkeeper for the Super Eagles.

According to Tuttomercatoweb, Okoye said, "Obviously I would like to wear the national team jersey again."

The Super Eagles and Udinese shot-stopper made it clear that he was prepared to replace Nwabali as the team's starting shot-stopper.

Okoye expressed his sadness following his goalkeeping error that cost Nigeria at the 2021 AFCON tournament in Cameroon.

After nearly a year away from international competition, the 24-year-old returned to the Super Eagles last month.

He was included in the matchday squad for the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers against the Republic of Benin and South Africa.

At the moment, Nwabali, who made an impression at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations earlier this year, is ahead of him.
