Golden Boot Omala leads scoring charts as Rupia frustrated by barren cameos

The FKF Premier League race for the Golden Boot after game week 25.

With just about 10 rounds of fixtures left until curtains fall on the 2022-2023 FKF Premier League season, the contest for the coveted Golden Boot is all but settled with Gor Mahia's Benson Omala in pole position.

Pulse Sports sheds the spotlight on this season’s leading marksmen from Kenya’s top-flight thus far. Who is leading the lines at your favorite club? Can they catch up with the prolific K'Ogalo man?

1. Benson Omala (Gor Mahia)-24 goals

Benson Omala has been on a different level this season. After going on a run of four consecutive matches without a goal, he netted a brace against Anthony Modo Kimani’s Bandari at the Mbaraki Sports Club last week, before following it up with another in the 2-2- draw against Posta Rangers on Saturday.

That second goal, a neat header into the back of the net, marked Omala’s 24th league goal of the season, keeping him top of the goalscoring charts after 25 league games.

2. Elvis Rupia (Kenya Police FC)-16 goals

After Elvis Machapo Rupia had managed to score two goals off the bench in a 4-2 win over Nairobi City Stars last Wednesday, he found himself starting on the bench yet again in their 1-0 loss to Tusker FC.

Head coach, Francis Baraza decided to continue with new signing, Derrick Otanga, who was partnering David Simiyu in a 3-5-2 formation. Although Rupia came off the bench, he could not help Police find the back of Tusker's net, which keeps him on 16 goals, leaving him with a lot of work to do if he is to catch up to Omala’s numbers.

3. Joseph Mwangi (Nzoia Sugar FC)-11 goals

Joseph Mwangi’s performances for Nzoia Sugar FC this season epitomize why Nzoia have been doing well in the league with the midfielder being the latest Premier League player to score more than 10 league goals this campaign.

After setting up fellow teammate James Kibande for the opening goal against Mathare United this past weekend, he netted his 11th of the season in the 66th minute, giving Nzoia a solid three points to keep them third in the league standings.
