K’Ogalo have again picked up crucial points as they make strides towards wrestling the league title from Tusker.
Football Kenya Federation Premier League leaders Gor Mahia handed Mathare United's freshly installed head coach Collins Omondi a rude welcome after scoring in each half to condemn the Slum Boys to a 2-1 loss at Kasarani stadium on Wednesday afternoon.
Philemon Otieno put K’Ogalo in front before Ronald Sichenje’s debut goal equalized for the away side six minutes before the halftime break. The second goal for the winners was scored in the second half by Boniface Omondi.
Meanwhile, with Mathare sitting deep in their own area in the opening minutes, Gor Mahia attempted to unlock them by playing long balls to Omalla. But in both cases, when they located their talisman, he was blocked by either Omar Adisa in goal or Geoffrey Shiveka at the center of the defense.

The Slum Boys’ grew into the game and pressed forward, and in reaction, Gor Mahia were forced to play short passes to Gad Mathews to stifle the opponent’s attacks.
An open chance presented itself to the away side in the eighth minute, but Baron Oketch – after linking well to Daniel Otieno’s pass – shot wide off the post.
In the 10th minute, K’Ogalo won a free kick just outside the box, Austin Odhiambo took over the free-kick delivery duties and tested Adisa with a low ball. The Mathare goalkeeper could not decisively stop the freekick as he conceded a corner.
Gor Mahia could not effectively maximize the opportunity presented by the corner, as Mathare cleared the ball with ease.
Mathare survived going down in the 16th minute when their defensive line was easily opened up. A pinpoint pass from George ‘Blackberry’ Odhiambo landed on Omala’s path, but the striker’s powerful shot hit the side netting.

The shot stopper gives two main reasons why he feels K’Ogalo are not going to pip Brewers to the crown.
After possessing the ball for a minute or so, Gor Mahia finally managed to get the opener in the 24th minute. Unmarked, Otieno stealthily entered Mathare’s penalty area and slotted past Adisa, who two minutes before conceding, had denied Omala from close range.
Mathare did not look dejected even after conceding the opener, and they fought hard, created chances, and piled pressure on the record league champions. Their effort was deservedly rewarded in the 39th minute when they equalized.
Sichenje did well to collect a low cross from Khalid Jumaan before he slotted home – after a fine control with his weaker foot – past Mathews.
Making maximum use of their marauding fullbacks, Gor Mahai created extra attacking spaces that the 2008 league champions failed to deal with as the second half gathered speed.
Gor Mahia scored their second in the 58th minute when Boniface Omondi fired a low cross past Adisa. Mathare’s backline looked disorganized, and Gor took prompt advantage to score and regain the lead in the end-to-end encounter at Kasarani.
In response to Gor’s dominance, the Estlands club made three changes in the 74th minute with Chris Owino, Steve Kimari and Douglas Kibet coming in for Sichenje, Jumaan and Oketch. A fourth change was made in the 83rd minute with Francis Baraza replacing Otieno.
The result means Gor Mahia have avenged a 2-1 loss they suffered at the hands of Mathare on March 1.
Meanwhile, at the Police Pavilion, Police FC managed to beat Bidco United 2-0.
Elvis Rupia scored twice in the 12th and 80th minutes to ensure the home side not only recorded a win but also a clean sheet.
