John Stones produced a magnificent midfield performance for Manchester City against Inter Milan in the Champions League final, a performance even Lionel Messi would be proud of.
John Stones has taken his game to new levels this season and his performances especially in the latter stages of Man City's successful Champions League run have caught the eye.
A centre-back by trade, Stones has been excellent in his new hybrid role, playing as a right-sided defender or central defender who steps into midfield to play alongside Rodri.
Stones or Messi?
The 29-year-old completed all six dribbles he attempted against Inter Milan - the last player to register more successful take-ons in the biggest game of European club football was a certain Lionel Messi in 2015 (per Opta).
Stones didn't misplace a single pass until the 40th minute and completed more dribbles than the entire Inter tem put together in what was an outstanding display of poise, calmness, and skill at the highest level.
