Nottingham Forest moved level on points with Arsenal on the Premier League table after thrashing Southampton.

Nuno Espírito Santo’s men took advantage of Arsenal’s slip-up on Saturday after the Gunners surrendered a two-goal lead against Aston Villa.

Forest, who have not lost in their last seven EPL games, extended their unbeaten run, defeating the Saints 3-2 and moving six points behind Liverpool.

As it happened

Nottingham Forest made just one change from Tuesday's draw with Liverpool, while Southampton have been hit by an injury to Tyler Dibbling, who has been replaced in the starting XI.

The home side started the game brightly and converted their first chance of the game in the 11th minute.

Morgan Gibbs-White gave the ball to Elliot Anderson and he turned and drove towards goal before ripping a great strike in at the near post for the opening goal.

The home side ripped Southampton apart, scoring two more goals from Chris Woods and Hudson Odoi to increase their lead before the halftime break.

The visitors got a goal back early in the second half through Jan Bednarek and got another via Paul Onuachu to kickstart a comeback.

However, they were unable to complete the comeback, with Forest holding on to the win until the final whistle.
