Abia Warriors boss Erasmus Onuh has said that his side has got ahead of themselves before their NPFL game week fixture with Lobi Stars.
The 2023 NPFL Group B leaders fell to a 1-0 defeat at the Umuahia Township Stadium on Sunday, making it their first defeat of the season after three games.
A 56th-minute goal by Kumaga Suur was all the visiting Makurdi-club needed as they won their second consecutive game of the season, and first away from home at the expense of the Warriors.
Onuh admits Abia Warriors felt they had arrived
Speaking after the game, Onuh revealed that the probable reason for the defeat was because his team were not their real selves.
"Some else is losing [at home] as I speak. I have also beaten someone [while away from home]. There's nothing wrong in it [losing at home], it's just for me to go back and get it right," he said after is side's defeat.
"All the areas, I need to work on them again. I thought we have arrived, maybe my players thought they have arrived, but now we know that we have not. We'll go back and see what went wrong.
"It's the entire team that I am going to look into. I am surprised because we play a fast kind of football, if we were our real selves, something would have happened, but we were slow.
"I'm trying to see what happened, but it is only when we get back to training that we can ask the question and figured out what happened.
Abia Warriors to turn attention to Sunshine Stars
Despite the defeat, Abia Warriors remain in first place in Group B, although ahead of second-placed Niger Tornadoes who have a game in hand.
Other results from Group B saw Bayelsa United and Doma United pick up their first wins of the season, defeating Wikki Tourist, and Dakkada, while Rangers shared the spoils with Sunshine Stars.
Abia Warriors will next, turn their attention to Sunshine Stars who they play at the Akure Stadium in seven days.
