Nigeria Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen has continued from where he stopped last season in the Serie A with champions SSC Napoli.
Nigeria international Victor Osimhen is under no illusions about the reason behind his impressive form for Serie A champions SSC Napoli.
The Serie A returned for the 2023/24 season with the Nigerian striker and his club in fine form at the weekend.
Napoli got their title defence off to the perfect start after a comfortable 3-1 win over Frosinone on Saturday.
Osimhen off the mark for Napoli
Super Eagles forward continued from where he stopped last season as he inspired the defending champions to a winning start to the new campaign.
The 24-year-old kept his position in the first eleven under new manager Rudi Garcia whose new club was made to dig deep for the win.
Newly promoted outfit Frosinone took a shock lead courtesy of a seventh-minute penalty by Abdou Harroui before they were blown away by the champions.
Matteo Politano kicked off the comeback train with a deserved equaliser in the 24th minute before Osimhen opened his account for the season with a ferocious stunner three minutes from the break to give Napoli the lead at half time.
Napoli and Osimhen were forced to wait till late on for the next goal, with the Nigerian forward showing great awareness and movement to seal the deal with his second and Napoli’s third of the evening following an excellent through pass from Giovanni Di Lorenzo 11 minutes from time.
Osimhen praises God
The goals were his first for the season in the first game of the new campaign as well and he picked up from where he stopped last season.
He ended last season with a goal in a 2-0 win against Sampdoria at the Diego Maradona Stadium and kicked off with a brace this time away from home.
After the match, Osimhen took to his social media page to share his performance with his creator.
“God is the greatest,” the talented striker posted on Instagram and X.
Up next
Nigeria's Osimhen and his team of champions will host Sassuolo in what will be a tricky encounter next weekend in Naples.
The superstar will be looking to continue his impressive start to the season against a side that he scored a hat-trick against the last time they visited the Maradona Stadium.
