Super Eagles striker Victor Osimhen is close to a return from injury after recent recovery progress
Victor Osimhen is back in training with Napoli after pulling out of international duty with Nigeria, and could be fit to face Atalanta.
The centre-forward was forced to withdraw from the call-up for his country due to the inflammation of an old scar, which had already ruled him out of the 1-1 draw with Inter.
Osimhen’s progress in recovery
Osimhen is working separately with the fitness staff rather than with the rest of his teammates, but there is already progress in his recovery. According to Sky Sport Italia, the striker should be available to feature on Saturday against Atalanta.
The clash kicks off at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona at 11.30 GMT and is a head-to-head for European qualification. It's a crucial fixture for Napoli, and Osimhen's potential return adds another dimension to their attacking prowess.
He could even start the match flanked by Matteo Politano and Kvicha Kvaratskhelia. Osimhen's presence upfront would undoubtedly bolster Napoli's chances of securing a positive result against a formidable Atalanta side.
Season Performance and Impact
Osimhen has scored 13 goals and provided four assists in 24 appearances for the club this season between Serie A, the Champions League, and Coppa Italia. However, his performance against top-half teams has been questioned, with only one of his 11 Serie A goals coming against such opponents – a penalty against Fiorentina.
Despite this, Osimhen's return to the lineup presents Napoli with a valuable asset as they seek to secure their European qualification spot. His pace, power, and goal-scoring ability could prove pivotal in unlocking Atalanta's defence and securing a vital victory for Napoli.
