Napoli's Nigerian striker, Victor Osimhen can't seem to catch a break after failing to help the Partenopei past Barcelona in the Champions League
Former Italy head coach, Arigo Sacchi, didn't hold back in his criticism of Victor Osimhen's performance during Napoli's recent defeat to Barcelona in the UEFA Champions League.
Osimhen’s Underwhelming Performance Against Barcelona
The Serie A champions were eliminated from the competition after suffering a 3-1 defeat to Xavi's men, losing the Round of 16 contest 4-2 on aggregate.
Osimhen, who scored Napoli's solitary goal in the first leg, failed to make a significant impact in the reverse fixture. Despite managing just one shot on target throughout the game, the Nigerian international struggled against Barcelona's defense, particularly against youngster Pau Cubarsi.
Sacchi's Critique of Osimhen
In his column for La Gazzetta dello Sport, Sacchi expressed his disappointment with Osimhen's performance, stating, "What surprised me the most was the little involvement of Kvara and Osimhen, the two most awaited players." Sacchi continued, "It’s true that they didn’t get much service, but at the same time, they didn’t move much and they did it in the wrong way, so it was easy for opponents to stop them."
Sacchi emphasized that Osimhen, along with another highly anticipated player, failed to assert themselves effectively during the match. He criticized their lack of movement and suggested that they didn't position themselves well to receive the ball, making it easier for opponents to neutralize their threat.
Osimhen's struggles in Italy continue to attract criticism, with his recent performance against Barcelona drawing ire from former Italy head coach Arigo Sacchi. As Napoli's UEFA Champions League campaign comes to an end, Osimhen faces mounting pressure to rediscover his form and silence his critics on the pitch.
