Osimhen struggles against 10-man Bodrum but ex-Chelsea star saves Galatasaray

Relegation-threatened Bodrum managed to silence Victor Osimhen, but Galatasaray secured a hard-fought victory.

Victor Osimhen's shooting boots were missing in the trip to Bodrum, but former Chelsea striker Michy Batshuayi was on hand to help Galatasaray secure a hard-fought 1-0 victory and maintain their margin at the top.

The Cim-Bom had their work cut out for them after Fenerbahce's convincing triumph earlier in the day. Okan Buruk's side, armed with their Nigerian ace, have, on most occasions, blown out their oppositions in the Super Lig. However, Bodrum, languishing in the relegation places, gave them a bloody nose.

Galatasaray had a fast start, and Osimhen could have scored inside the opening 10 minutes but could not connect a header after a well-weighted cross.

The hosts weathered the early storm and soon took the game to the league leaders, but soon had their wings clipped after Ege Bisel was shown a straight red just before halftime.

Buruk brought Batshuayi on at half-time to revert to the two-striker system that has worked to perfection this season, albeit with the injured Mauro Icardi pairing with Osimhen instead of the former Besiktas man.

The substitution proved inspired, as Osimhen attracted the attention of Bodrum centre-backs leaving Batshuayi a free header from a Dries Mertens cross to give the Cim-Bom the lead in the 54th minute.

Galatasaray had the chance to go 2-0 up just over the hour mark when Osimhen broke free and teed up Hakim Ziyech, but the Moroccan, tasked with tapping into a vacated net, managed to sky his effort.

Ziyech, in a bid to make up for the miss, drew a couple of saves from Diogo Sousa from speculative efforts. In the 83rd minute, Osimhen broke free once more, but could not beat the Portuguese shot-stopper.

The miss nearly proved costly as Bodrum struck the crossbar moments after, but Buruk's side eventually escaped with maximum three points.
