The match, abandoned in the 23rd week of the season, has reignited debates over refereeing standards in Turkish football.

Buruk questions Adana Demirspor’s intentions

Buruk did not hold back in his post-match comments, suggesting that Adana Demirspor’s withdrawal was calculated rather than a spontaneous response to unfair officiating.

“We didn’t expect this,” Buruk said, adding, “But apparently, some people were waiting for it and immediately posted tweets. I don’t want to take anyone’s guilt… I congratulate Adana Demirspor’s players; they were fighting really well.”

Acknowledging that the penalty decision was debatable, Buruk admitted, “In my opinion, it was more likely that it wasn’t a penalty. But this is not the first mistake made against Adana Demirspor. I don’t believe this was an innocent, spontaneous decision.”

“The players wanted to play; they asked, ‘What happened?’ Maybe we would have won by a different margin; maybe Adana Demirspor would have earned a point,” Buruk explained.

The walk-off was triggered by a 12th-minute penalty converted by Alvaro Morata, which led to the match being abandoned after Adana Demirspor players refused to return to the pitch.
