Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen surpassed Cristiano Ronaldo's Serie A high jump record but Fikayo Tomori remains number 1.
Nigerian striker Victor Osimhen leaped 2.58 metres into the air to score a brilliant header for Napoli against Spezia in a 3-0 win on Sunday.
The goal was initially reported as the highest jump for a headed goal in Serie A history after surpassing the previous record held by Cristiano Ronaldo.
However, that has now been proven untrue as AC Milan defender Fikayo Tomori actually held the record in the first place not Ronaldo.
Osimhen surpasses Ronaldo but not Tomori
Osimhen's jump into the air against Spezia was recorded at 2.58 metres, surpassing Cristiano Ronaldo's in 2019 for Juventus against Sampdoria.
Ronaldo's jump was recorded at 2.56 metres and was presumably the Serie A record for the highest jump for headed goals but the true record belongs to Fikayo Tomori.
Tomori's jump against Juventus in 2021 was recorded at 2.61 metres which is the highest anyone has ever jumped to score a header in Serie A since those records were kept.
Osimhen fell just 0.3 metres short of becoming Serie A's new air king but he can take solace in being second for now having displaced the legendary Ronaldo.
The Nigerian is also second in total amount of headed goals across the top five European leagues this season with five headers scored already, only Harry Kane has more with seven.
Osimhen is currently enjoying a fine season for Napoli and has scored 17 goals and provided four assists in 21 games for the Italian side.
