Napoli's match against Salernitana has been postponed from Saturday to Sunday to allow the city of Naples prepare for a potential title parade
Napoli’s potential Serie A title-winning match against Salernitana has been postponed from Saturday to Sunday after the mayor of the city of Naples asked for the fixture to be moved due to security concerns.
Napoli on the verge of historic Serie A title
Napoli are on the verge of claiming their first Serie A title since 1990, with a 17-point gap between them and their closest rivals, and they could secure the title mathematically with a win over Salernitana in Gameweek 32 if second-place Lazio fail to pick up maximum points against Inter in the same Gameweek.
Winning the 2022/23 Serie A title is a matter of when, not if, for Napoli and this weekend could see them claim the prestigious honour with a win over the side currently sitting 14th on the table.
Realising the potential for a momentous occasion in the city’s history, the mayor of Naples asked for the match to be moved back by a day to allow them to adequately prepare for a potential title parade that will certainly bring the house down.
Napoli likely to clinch Serie A title on Sunday
Italy’s Committee for Security of Sporting Events has granted the request, and the match is now scheduled for Sunday the 31st of April, instead of Saturday, the 30th, although the exact time is still not known.
The current expectation is for the Napoli game to join other Sunday afternoon Serie A fixtures at 16:00 WAT, which is later than Lazio’s game against Inter.
If this is ratified, Napoli will go into the fixture against Salernitana knowing exactly what result will see them crowned champions on Sunday and will be able to aggressively pursue it.
