Ugandan long-distance runner Jacob Kiplimo and basketball star Jannon Otto have headlined the Real Star Monthly Awards for their respective outstanding individual performances in February 2023.

Kiplimo came on top at the World Cross Country Championship in Bathurst, Australia beating Ethiopia's Berihu Aregawi and compatriot Joshua Cheptegei to gold.

As he finished 29 minutes, 17 seconds, Kiplimo became just the second Ugandan, after Cheptegei in Aarhus 2019, to achieve the feat.

Meanwhile, at her first engagement with Uganda's female national basketball team, the Gazelles, Otto lifted the Gazelles throughout the Afrobasket qualifiers at Lugogo, producing a man of the match performance in the incredible victory over Egypt.

She fended off opposition from Maria Najjuma and Brenda Ekone, who were just as impressive.

In the other disciplines, Uganda Hippos' Rogers Mugisha beat Titus Ssematimba and Patrick Katumba to be voted February's finest footballer in the country.

On the other hand, Kobs' Pius Ogena edged each of Karim Arinaitwe and Aaron Ofoyrwoth to the best rugby star for the preceding month.

In Badminton, after becoming the first Ugandan to win gold at the All-African Senior Championship in South Africa, Fadilah Shamika did enough to edge Husina Kobugabe and Brian Kisakye for February's shine.
