After scoring against Egypt in the Paris 2024 Bronze medal match, the Moroccan star earned a place in Olympics history
Moroccan striker Soufiane Rahimi has written himself into Olympic folklore after his sensational performance at the Paris 2024 Olympics to help his country claim a 6-0 win over Egypt and their first-ever Olympic medal in football.
Morocco hammer Egypt in bronze medal match
After the disappointment of losing to Spain in the Olympic semifinal, Morocco bounced back in spectacular fashion to claim the bronze medal against Egypt.
Ex-Barcelona winger Abde Ezzalzouli opened the scoring for Morocco before Rahimi struck soon after to double the lead.
From then on, there was no looking back as the Atlas Cubs went on a rampage against Egypt. Further goals from Bilal El Khannouss, Rahimi again, and Akram Nakach put the result beyond doubt before a sensational freekick from captain Achraf Hakimi sealed a dominant 6-0 win.
Rahimi makes Olympics history
With his goals against Egypt, Rahimi became the first player in Olympic history to score in six consecutive matches, scoring eight goals in total in Paris, more than Lionel Messi, Cristiano Ronaldo, and Nwankwo Kanu combined at the Olympics.
In addition to his brace against Egypt in the bronze medal playoff, Rahimi also scored against Argentina, Ukraine, and Iraq in the group stages, as well as against the USA in the quarterfinal and Spain in the semifinal, to eclipse the achievements of other football greats who have appeared at the Olympics.
The Al-Ain forward has been sensational in Paris, enjoying a brilliant campaign that has now seen him make Moroccan and Olympic history.
