The Nigeria international is yet to play in the Premier League but his tall height is already making a big splash.
Super Eagles star Paul Onuachu is now the joint-tallest Premier League player following his move to Southampton.
Onuachu joined Southampton from Genk on deadline day in a deal worth £18m, including add-ons.
Onuachu-the tallest man in the room
The Nigeria international signed a three-and-a-half-year deal with the Saints, joining compatriot, Joe Aribo at the club.
Onuachu is expected to make his Southampton debut but he has already announced himself even before his debut.
The 28-year-old’s arrival in the Premier League makes him the joint-tallest player in England’s top flight.
Onuachu stands tall at 2.01m (201cm), which is the same height as Tottenham Hotspur goalkeeper Fraser Forster.
However, considering Forster is a reserve goalkeeper, Onuachu is the tallest outfield player in the Premier League.
He moves ahead of Poland and Wolves striker Sasa Kalajdzic, who is 2m (200cm) tall and Newcastle defender Dan Burn 1.98m (198cm).
Onuachu set for his biggest mission yet
Southampton will hope Onuachu uses his height to their advantage as they attempt to beat the drop.
Onuachu arrives with a big reputation after scoring, having scored 85 goals in 134 games for Genk, including 16 in 19 league games this season.
Twenty-one of his goals for Genk came via headers, which shows Onuachu’s aerial strength. He will now hope to follow in the footsteps of former Nigerian strikers like Yakubu Aiyegbeni, Peter Odemwingie and Obafemi Martins, who all made their mark in the Premier League.
The pressure is on Onuachu to deliver as Southampton are currently joint-bottom of the Premier League, and will need the Super Eagles star to be clinical up front.
Onuachu could make a debut for his new side when they travel to England’s capital to take on Brentford at the Gtech Community Stadium.
