The 2023 CAF Super Cup between Al Ahly and Algeria’s USM Alger will be hosted in Saudi Arabia, the Confederation of Africa Football has confirmed.

The oil-rich Gulf state has been making headlines recently with the manner in which they have lured top football stars to their league.

CAF has followed the trend by taking the Super League clash to King Fahd Stadium.

“We are excited to take the TotalEnergies CAF Super Cup to a new territory in Saudi Arabia – a country that has been making significant strides in global football,” Veron Mosengo-Omba, the CAF General Secretary, explains the reason for taking the premier interclub season opener to Saudi Arabia.

“African football ranks amongst the best in the world right now, and it's fitting that, in an era where many international stars are heading to Saudi Arabia, African Football is also a part of this movement,” Omba adds.

The CAF Super League is contested by the CAF Champions League's defending champions and Confederation Cup winners before the season's group stages begin.
